The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) has attributed the ongoing power outage in parts of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to suspected vandalism of an underground cable.

In a notice to customers on Sunday, AEDC said the affected areas include Federal Secretariat Phase 1, the Federal Ministry of Health, the Federal Ministry of Education, the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Eagle Square and environs.

The affected locations host some of the federal government’s most critical ministries and public facilities.

“We wish to inform you that the current power outage is due to suspected vandalism of an underground cable supplying the affected areas,” the company stated.

AEDC said it’s doing everything possible to replace the vandalised materials and restore electricity supply to the affected institutions.

“We are doing everything possible to replace the vandalised materials and restore supply in the shortest time possible.

The company apologised to the affected customers for the disruption and appealed for patience.

“We sincerely regret the inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your patience, understanding and continued cooperation as we work to restore normal supply,” AEDC said.

Vandalism of electricity infrastructure has continued to disrupt power supply across Nigeria, with distribution companies recording millions of naira in losses to cable theft and damage to equipment.
