Jigawa Govt Appoints Dr Lawan Ahmed as 17th Emir of Gumel
Jigawa State Governor, Malam Umar Namadi has approved the appointment of Ciroman Gumel, Dr Lawan Ahmed Mohammed Sani as the 17th Emir of Gumel.
This was made known in a statement issued on Sunday by the Secretary to the State Government, Malam Bala Ibrahim.
The new Emir succeeds his father, Alhaji Ahmed Muhammad Sani II, who died on Thursday, September 3, 2026, after a distinguished reign of 46 years.
Until his appointment as Emir of Gumel, Dr. Lawan Ahmed Muhammad Sani served as Director of Cyber Security at the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA).
The statement said Governor Umar Namadi expresses gratitude to the kingmakers of the Gumel Emirate Council, under the Chairmanship of Wazirin Gumel, Alhaji Adamu Muhammad Nasoro, and his members.
He also thanked the Emirs of Hadejia, Kazaure, Ringim, and Dutse, who constitute the Jigawa State Council of Chiefs, for their invaluable advice during the selection process.
“The Governor, on behalf of the Jigawa State Government, congratulates the new Emir on his appointment and wishes him many years of successful service to Gumel Emirate and the nation,” the statement said.
Our Correspondent gathered that a total of nine people contested for the throne out of which three withdrew, while the kingmakers in Gumel Emirate forwarded three names for the governor to select from in line with the law.
The three names were Ciroman Gumel Lawan Ahmed Mohammed Sani, Tafidan Gumel Alhaji Ibrahim Ahmed Mohammed Sani and Sarkin Dawaki Alhaji Sani Alhassan Muhammad.
