A 37-year-old Nigerian woman, Saratu Jibo, declared missing after arriving in Qatar, has been found at a hospital in the Middle Eastern country.
Michael Achimugu, Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection at the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority, disclosed the development on Sunday, saying Jibo was safe and had contacted her family.
Jibo had departed the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, for Qatar on Tuesday aboard Qatar Airways.
Her brother, Jonathan Jibo, raised the alarm on Friday after losing contact with her following her arrival in Doha.
Jonathan said the last communication with his sister was while she was airborne and connected to the aircraft’s Wi-Fi.
He said she did not contact the person assigned to pick her up from the airport after the flight landed.
The person reportedly contacted the airport desk and was informed that Jibo had collected her luggage.
Achimugu subsequently said the airline’s CCTV footage showed that Jibo arrived safely, collected her bags and left the terminal.
Giving an update on Sunday, Achimugu said Jibo’s phone and international passport had been held by Qatari authorities while some issues were being clarified.
“I have spoken with the lady. She is safe. Her mobile phone and international passport were held by Customs, who were trying to clarify some issues,” he said.
“She was unable to reach anyone while the process was ongoing. However, she has been cleared and released, and has possession of her properties.
“She has contacted her family, too.”
Achimugu said Jibo appreciated those who showed concern for her safety.
He also commended a Nigerian resident in Qatar, Yusuf Adesoga, for visiting security agencies in the country in an effort to locate her.
Jonathan later disclosed that his sister had been taken to a hospital after falling ill at the airport.
He commended Achimugu, the Nigerian Embassy in Doha and Qatar Airways for their intervention.
