Sokoto Gov’t to sink 170 boreholes in 23 LGAs – Commissioner

The Sokoto State Government has announced plans to sink 170 boreholes across the 23 Local Government Areas of the state to improve access to potable water.
This was disclosed on Tuesday by the State Commissioner for Local Governments and Chieftaincy Matters, Alhaji Ibrahim Dadi Adare, during a monitoring tour of ongoing projects in Kware, Gada and Gwadabawa Local Government Areas.
Adare said water supply remains one of the top priorities of the 9-Point Smart Agenda of Gov. Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto*.
“His Excellency is committed to ensuring that every community has access to clean water.
“That is why 170 boreholes have been earmarked for sinking across all the 23 LGAs,” he said.
The Commissioner explained that the visit was also aimed at ensuring that the LGAs are judiciously expending the humongous funds they are receiving from the state and federal governments to better the lives of the people.
He added that the boreholes would be sited in communities with the greatest need, including schools, health centers, and rural settlements currently battling water scarcity.
Adare further appealed to the people of the state to take full ownership of the various projects being executed by the government, and to *protect them from vandalism.
“The government is investing heavily in these projects for the benefit of the people.
” It is therefore the responsibility of the communities to safeguard them so that they can serve the intended purpose,” he said.
Residents of the visited LGAs commended the government for the intervention, noting that many communities have suffered acute water shortages, especially during the dry season.
