Sokoto Governor’s Security Adviser Bags “Golden Heart” Award

The Special Adviser on Security Matters to Sokoto State Governor, Col. Ahmed Abdul Usman (rtd), has been honoured with the prestigious Golden Heart Award by his course mates.
Col. Ahmed is a member of the Direct Regular Course 10 Nigerian Army/11 Nigerian Air Force of the Nigeria Defence Academy.
The members held their 2026 reunion on Saturday, September 5, 2026 at the 65 Battalion Mess, Bonny Cantonment, Victoria Island, Lagos, during which the award was presented to Col. Ahmed.
Members of the course, enlisted into the Nigerian Army in 2000, used the reunion to renew friendships and camaraderie built over two decades of service.
Receiving the award, the Security Adviser expressed appreciation to the President of the Association, Brig. Gen. Showunmi Solomon (Rtd), and other members for the recognition.
He described the award as a source of encouragement and prayed to Almighty Allah to grant members the strength to continue supporting one another and protect them as they return to their various destinations.
The reunion also provided an opportunity for members to reflect on the history, achievements, and future of the association, with emphasis on strengthening friendship and improving member welfare.
In his address, the Association’s President recalled that the initiative to unite members began in 2015 through a WhatsApp platform, which later grew into a structured body with elected officials and guiding rules.
He noted that the first physical reunion was held in 2021 at the 65 Battalion Mess, followed by meetings at Eko Hotels and Suites, and the Armed Forces Officers’ Mess in Abuja.
The President stressed that welfare remains a key objective of the association and urged members to build stronger welfare systems that promote economic independence through collaboration and wealth-creation initiatives, especially as many approach retirement.
He also called on members to contribute positively to their communities and to the development of the country as senior citizens.
The occasion concluded with a minute’s silence in honour of deceased members, with prayers for their families.
