Benue APC dismisses purported suspension of former Commissioner as ‘null, void’

The Benue State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has declared the purported suspension of former Commissioner for Transport, Power, and Renewable Energy, Mathew Omale, as null, void, and of no consequence.
The clarification follows a viral letter purportedly signed by the Iga-Okpaya Ward Chairman, Echehoyi Oinu, and Secretary, Oyegwa Elijah, announcing Omale’s suspension over alleged anti-party activities, high-handedness, and insubordination.
The ward signatories claimed Omale failed to appear before a disciplinary panel after being invited via text message on September 11, 2026.
However, in a press statement issued in response, the State APC Publicity Secretary, Daniel Ihomun, disowned the suspension, describing Omale as a founding member and critical stakeholder in Benue South Senatorial District.
Ihomun revealed that the individuals behind the letter are not recognized members of the Iga-Okpaya Ward Executive Committee and lack any constitutional authority to discipline party members.
“The individuals who purportedly signed the suspension letter are not recognized members of the Ward Executive Committee of the APC in Iga-Okpaya Ward and, consequently, have no authority whatsoever under the Constitution and disciplinary framework of the Party,” Ihomun said.
He emphasized that no legitimate ward executive had disciplined the former state legal officer, urging party members and the public to disregard the document completely.
“The purported suspension is therefore null, void, invalid, and of no consequence whatsoever.
“ The APC remains committed to its constitutional processes and will not allow individuals acting outside the recognized party structure to create confusion, impersonate party organs, or unlawfully interfere with the rights of legitimate members,” Ihomun stated.
