The Chairman, Kano state Task Force Committee on Private Schools, Alhaji Baba Umar, yesterday said his committee has complied with the state’s directives to resume private schools on 13th October.

The National Union of Teachers (NUT), Kano state chapter, had directed all public schools to shun the federal government’s  September 22nd resumption date until it fulfills its promise to provide the equipment for screening students for the Ebola virus.

Hence, the committee has ordered proprietors of private schools in the state to respect the directives, adding that the development followed instruction from the state’s ministry of education.

Alhaji Umar, also averred that the state government is right in complying with the NUT’s directives in order to resolve the matter amicably, and because Sallah period is approaching.

“Following the federal government’s directive to re-open schools nationwide on 22 September, I learnt that some states have resolved to shun the directive until October. This is because the state has the right to change the date to its own suitable time. Therefore, following the NUT’s directive to public schools to shun the resumption date until the government fulfill its promise, we have resolved to follow suit.

“The reason for the state government to comply with the NUT’s directives may not be unconnected with the state’s readiness to resolve any matter with the NUT amicably. Additionally, as Sallah season is approaching, the government decided to comply”, he said.

The chairman also called on parents to send their children to the school on the resumption date and to insist on punctuality, in order to make up for the three month period lost as a result of the outbreak of Ebola.
