The Governing Council of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, has approved the appointment of Dr. Aliyu Dalha Kankia as the university’s new Registrar and Yahaya Hussaini as Bursar.
The appointments were approved during the Council’s 218th Special Meeting held on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, at the university campus in Zaria. .
The appointments will take effect from October 4, 2026.
Kankia will succeed Rabiu Samaila as Registrar, while Hussaini will replace Malam Mohammed Bello Aminu Gurin as Bursar.
Dr. Aliyu Dalha Kankia holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science from Ahmadu Bello University and a Master of Science degree with specialisation in International Politics from the University of London, United Kingdom.
He subsequently obtained a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Political Science from Ahmadu Bello University in 2024.
Kankia joined the services of ABU on December 10, 1990, and rose through the ranks to become a Deputy Registrar.
The incoming Bursar, Yahaya Hussaini, is an accounting and finance professional with 31 years experience in public financial management, university governance, treasury operations, budgeting, public-sector accounting and payroll.
As a senior officer in the university’s Bursary Department, Hussaini has gained experience across major financial functions of the institution.
