The Interim National Working Committee, INWC, of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has said that as Nigeria turns 66, Nigerians must rise in unison to shun inducement and stand firm against intimidation.
The Dr Tanimu Turaki-led INWC of the PDP pointedly declared that now is the time for Nigerians to be determined, at the earliest opportunity, to elect a government that will build a Nigeria that works for all, not just some: a nation of security, economic opportunity, unity and justice.
That responsibility, the opposition party maintained, ‘now rests on us at the ballot box”, adding, “This is our own time, and we must not let it pass”.
The party, in its independence message to Nigerians, personally signed by Dr Turaki, SAN, recalled that when the moment for self-rule came, the nation’s forebears rejected inducements and resisted threats designed to defeat their aim without delay as they did not miss their moment.
The party, in its statement, said, “Every year, when we mark the anniversary of our independence, we are reminded of the sacrifices our forebears made in pursuit of a country they envisaged as a place of prosperity, equality, equity and justice.
“Worthy of note is that when the moment for self-rule came, they rejected inducements and resisted threats designed to defeat their aim. “They did not delay, and they did not miss their moment.
“As Nigeria turns 66, it is our turn to rise. Nigerians must rise in unison to shun inducement and stand firm against intimidation.
“Now, more than ever, we must be determined, at the earliest opportunity, to elect a government that will build a Nigeria that works for all, not just some: a nation of security, economic opportunity, unity and justice.
“That responsibility now rests on us at the ballot box. This is our own time, and we must not let it pass.
“Happy independence anniversary, Nigeria”, it said.
