Students in Gombe State have launched a mobilisation platform to promote awareness of education programmes while declaring support for President Bola Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress governorship candidate, Jamilu Isyaku Gwamna, ahead of the 2027 elections.
The Convener of the JAGABA/INUWA Students’ Mandate 2027, Gombe State chapter, Comrade Kasim Abubakar, said the Tinubu administration’s education interventions were responsible for the group’s support.
Abubakar disclosed this in a statement on Thursday while announcing the inauguration of campus ambassadors who will engage students across tertiary institutions in the state.
“We are launching a platform that will engage students on the developments taking place in the education sector,” he said.
“Our Campus Ambassadors will take this conversation to campuses across Gombe, engage their fellow students and encourage informed discussions about programmes and interventions affecting their education and future.”
The group highlighted the Federal Government’s interest-free student loan scheme, saying it had provided financial support for students to meet tuition and upkeep expenses.
The Nigerian Education Loan Fund currently lists more than 1.96 million loan applications on its official platform, alongside more than 1.46 million registered students.
The students also cited investments in technical and vocational education and training, research grants, infrastructure and measures aimed at improving the welfare of university workers.
The group further praised the Gombe State Government for what it described as sustained investment in education since Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya assumed office in 2019.
It cited the construction and renovation of classrooms, recruitment of teachers, support for examinations, scholarships and bursaries, as well as interventions targeting out-of-school children.
The group also mentioned the reported expansion of Gombe State University, the development of Mega Colleges and programmes supporting girl-child education.
It said the interventions demonstrated the state government’s emphasis on expanding access to education, improving infrastructure and strengthening the teaching workforce.
Abubakar said the campus ambassadors would be responsible for grassroots mobilisation, voter education and discussions on education policies at both federal and state levels.
“The future of Gombe depends significantly on the quality of education available to its young people,” he stated.
“Our responsibility as students is to understand the policies and programmes affecting us, engage constructively and ensure that the concerns of students remain part of the public conversation.”
The group also declared support for Gwamna, who was adopted by the Gombe APC as its 2027 governorship candidate following consultations among party stakeholders.
Gwamna has said his agenda would focus on areas including economic growth, youth and women empowerment, agriculture, education, healthcare, infrastructure, entrepreneurship and innovation.
The student group said its campus ambassadors would take the candidate’s policies and programmes to tertiary institutions across the state.
It urged students to participate actively in discussions on education, governance and development ahead of the 2027 elections.
The group said its mobilisation would focus on informing students about government programmes and encouraging their participation in the political process.
