Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni has charged newly sworn-in commissioners, a permanent secretary and 17 local government chairmen to deliver on their mandates and justify the people’s confidence.

Speaking at their swearing-in ceremony in Damaturu on Thursday, Buni also urged the chairmen to work for the victory of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the 2027 elections, including the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the election of the party’s candidates at all levels.

He congratulated the chairmen, noting that many had been elected more than once on the APC platform.

“Serve the people diligently and deliver more dividends of democracy. Please, do not let them down,” he said.

Buni urged them to secure victory for Tinubu, Yobe governorship candidate Baba Malam Wali, the three senatorial candidates, six House of Representatives candidates and 24 State House of Assembly candidates.

He appealed to political stakeholders to conduct their activities peacefully, warning against a return to violence after years of security challenges.

He assured residents that the government and security agencies would continue to maintain peace.

The governor said the appointments of the commissioners and permanent secretary were based on merit and experience.

Buni said the appointments filled vacancies in the State Executive Council, while the local government elections strengthened grassroots representation.

He added that Yobe ranked second among the 36 states in democratic performance, scoring 64.3 per cent in a Kimpact Development Initiative assessment.

He commended the Yobe State Independent Electoral Commission for conducting a peaceful election and highlighted investments in civil service training, healthcare and institutional reforms.
