The Transmission Company of Nigeria has restored bulk electricity supply to parts of Abuja after a blackout lasting more than 40 hours, blaming the prolonged outage on a faulty circuit breaker.
The company said power was restored at about 4:16 pm on Thursday, October 15, following a disruption that began at 12:24 am on Wednesday, October 14, 2026.
In a statement, TCN said the outage followed the tripping of the 33kV feeder L36, while a faulty line circuit breaker delayed efforts to restore supply.
“The outage had occurred at 12:24 a.m. on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, following the tripping of 33kV feeder L36. However, restoration was delayed due to a faulty line circuit breaker,” the company said.
TCN explained that supply was restored after feeder L36 was successfully connected to feeder L34.
The development restored bulk electricity supply to load centres served by the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company.
Affected areas include Daba Estate, Police Barracks, Kuchigoro Community, Veritas Plastic Company, Idu, Paipe Village, Hala Rice Company, Rico Godo Feed Max Company, Chessboard Estate and Chinese Stone in the Saburi area.
The company said bulk power was now available for AEDC to distribute to customers in the affected communities.
However, TCN’s restoration of bulk supply does not necessarily mean that electricity has been restored to every customer, as distribution to individual homes and businesses is handled by AEDC.
