2027: Momodu predicts Tinubu’s defeat in parts of South, vows to resist refusal to concede

A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Dele Momodu, has expressed doubts about President Bola Tinubu’s willingness to accept defeat in the 2027 presidential election, insisting that Nigerians would resist any attempt to remain in office against the electorate’s wishes.

Momodu also accused Tinubu of allegedly filling the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) with people of Yoruba extraction, raising concerns about the credibility of the forthcoming elections.

Speaking on Arise Television’s Prime Time, monitored in Abuja, the veteran journalist claimed that 90 per cent of Nigerians would not trust Tinubu to conduct a free and fair election.

“In fact, some people are even suggesting that if Tinubu loses the election, he will not agree to step down. I say, why won’t he agree? We will chase him away,” he said.

Momodu, however, declined to disclose the opposition’s strategy for defeating the President, saying political efforts were ongoing behind the scenes.

He argued that the Yoruba people were also suffering under Tinubu’s administration, insisting that ethnicity would not guarantee the President their support in 2027.

“The Yorubas are suffering just like those from the North-West, North-East, North-Central, South-East and South-South,” he said.

The ADC chieftain further predicted that the NDC presidential candidate, Peter Obi, would defeat Tinubu in the South-East and some parts of the South-South.

“Peter Obi will humiliate Tinubu and all his supporters in the South-East and some parts of the South-South,” Momodu declared.

He added that Tinubu would need strong support across the three southern geopolitical zones, as well as the North, to secure re-election.

Momodu also criticised what he described as excessive concentration of political power around the President, alleging that governors, judges and legislators were afraid to challenge him.

His allegations concerning INEC’s composition and the President’s intentions if defeated were not independently substantiated in the account.
