The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Correspondents’ Chapel, Sokoto State, has mourned the death of veteran journalist Adeniyi Olugbemi, describing his passing as a major loss to the journalism profession.
Olugbemi died on Saturday, leaving colleagues and members of the media community in grief.
The chapel’s chairman, Ankeli Emmanuel, described the deceased as a hardworking, humble and dedicated journalist whose commitment to ethical journalism and impactful reporting earned him widespread respect.
He said Olugbemi’s contributions to journalism, particularly his efforts to give a voice to the voiceless, would be greatly missed.
The chapel’s secretary, Musa Ubandawaki, also praised Olugbemi’s humility, diligence and passion for journalism.
Olugbemi, who hailed from Yelwa, Ogun State, worked with several media organisations, including Tribune, The Sun, Taraba State Newspaper, The Punch and Leadership Newspaper. He served as The Punch Bureau Chief in Sokoto before founding The Guild Magazine, through which he continued to promote responsible journalism and mentor younger reporters.
The chapel extended its condolences to his family, friends and associates, praying for strength for them to bear the loss and for the peaceful repose of his soul.
