Kebbi completes 25 projects, awards 19 new contracts

Date:

The Kebbi State Government says it has completed 25 major infrastructure projects, with seven others nearing completion and 19 new contracts awarded as Governor Nasir Idris approaches his third anniversary in office.

The Commissioner for Information and Culture, Alhaji Yakubu Ahmed-BK, disclosed this during a press briefing in Birnin Kebbi on Sunday, describing the projects as part of the administration’s efforts to address infrastructure deficits across the state.

He said the projects covered roads, office complexes, transport terminals, drainage networks, bridges and other public infrastructure.

Ahmed-BK said the government’s infrastructure drive was aimed at fulfilling campaign promises and improving the living conditions of residents.

According to him, years of neglect had left several roads in poor condition, making transportation difficult and limiting economic activities in many communities.

He said the Idris administration had prioritised road construction and rehabilitation to improve connectivity, open up rural communities and facilitate the movement of agricultural produce.

“The projects are there for the people to verify,” the commissioner said.

He added that improved road networks would boost trade, attract private investment, strengthen security operations and make access to essential services easier.

Highlighting some of the newly awarded contracts, Ahmed-BK listed the rehabilitation of the Birnin Lafiya–Gulma–Natsini Road and the construction of access roads and drainage infrastructure behind Azbir Arena.

He said the 32.7-kilometre Birnin Lafiya–Gulma–Natsini Road, located in Argungu Local Government Area, had been awarded with a completion period of 12 months.

The commissioner also identified the newly constructed Central Motor Park in Birnin Kebbi as one of the administration’s notable infrastructure projects.

He described the former motor park as an eyesore that had become a source of embarrassment to residents and visitors.

According to him, the new facility is expected to serve as more than a transport terminal, with the potential to generate revenue, create jobs and stimulate commercial activities.

Ahmed-BK said the establishment of the Kebbi State Transportation Authority, the acquisition of mass transit buses and the development of the modern motor park had improved the state’s transportation system.

He added that the initiatives had created employment opportunities while strengthening public transport services.

The commissioner said infrastructure development was particularly important to Kebbi because of its agricultural economy and growing opportunities in solid minerals.

He explained that investment in roads and drainage systems would improve access to markets, strengthen agricultural value chains and facilitate the movement of goods across the state.

Ahmed-BK said the government remained committed to expanding infrastructure development, adding that sustained investment would help position Kebbi as an attractive destination for investors.

He urged residents to support the administration’s continuity agenda, arguing that a second term for Idris would allow the government to consolidate its achievements and extend development to more communities.

“Gov. Nasir Idris has demonstrated the capacity to lead, the commitment to address challenges and the courage to deliver results,” he said.

The commissioner expressed optimism that continued investment in infrastructure would accelerate economic growth, improve productivity and raise the standard of living of residents.
