2027: South-South APC Governors Must Attend Tinubu Campaign Flag-Off in Rivers – Group

Date:

The Arewa Youth for Peaceful Coexistence has urged governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the South-South to attend the party’s 2027 presidential campaign flag-off scheduled to hold in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

The group warned that any APC governor from the region who boycotts the event could raise questions about their commitment to President Bola Tinubu’s re-election campaign.

In a press release issued on Friday, November 6, 2026, and signed by its National Coordinator, Haruna Bature, the group described the planned rally as a significant political gathering that should attract the participation of all APC governors in the South-South.

It said the event, which is expected to be hosted by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, is an opportunity for political stakeholders in the region to demonstrate their support for President Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections.

According to the group, Port Harcourt occupies a strategic position in the South-South and should provide a platform for consolidating political support for the President.

“Any Governor from the South-South who deliberately boycotts or fails to attend this strategic rally will be sending the wrong signal about his commitment to President Tinubu’s re-election,” the statement said.

The group argued that political support for the President should be demonstrated through active participation in campaign activities, rather than verbal declarations of loyalty.

It also recalled that Rivers State recorded significant votes for Tinubu during the 2023 presidential election, despite the state being governed by an opposition party at the time.

The organisation attributed the outcome partly to Wike’s political influence and machinery, insisting that the state remains strategically important to the President’s re-election ambition.

It called on the APC leadership and President Tinubu to take note of political leaders who demonstrate commitment to the 2027 campaign through their participation and grassroots mobilisation.

The group further declared its support for Wike and expressed confidence that Rivers State youths would mobilise in large numbers for the campaign flag-off.

It maintained that the rally would provide an opportunity to strengthen support for Tinubu in the South-South ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

The statement concluded that the group’s support for the President’s re-election bid remained firm, expressing optimism about the political significance of the Rivers State rally.
