The Kano State Multi-Agency Task Force on Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking has seized approximately 3.18 million capsules suspected to be Pregabalin in Sabon Gari, Kano, barely 24 hours after the state government launched its Rapid Response Squad.
The seizure followed credible intelligence received through one of the Task Force’s reporting platforms, triggering a swift operation by the newly inaugurated squad.
Acting on the information, operatives raided a residential apartment at No. 13 Apple Avenue, Normansland, Sabon Gari, in Fagge Local Government Area, where they recovered approximately 3,180,000 suspected Pregabalin capsules.
A 34-year-old man, identified as Gregory Ogbuji, was arrested during the operation, while another suspect allegedly linked to the illicit activity is currently at large.
The arrested suspect, who is suspected to be associated with SEEMARK PHARMA LTD, registered under number 2012546, has been charged under Section 249 of the Penal Code.
The Chairman of the Task Force, Muhuyi Magaji Rimin Gado, Esq., described the seizure as a significant early achievement of the Rapid Response Squad, noting that it demonstrated the effectiveness of intelligence-led enforcement and public cooperation.
According to the Task Force, Pregabalin has become one of the most abused drugs in Kano State, with operational records indicating that about eight out of every 10 drug-related operations involve individuals dependent on or abusing the substance.
The Task Force expressed concern over the growing public health and security implications of Pregabalin abuse, stressing the need for sustained enforcement, public vigilance and stronger community participation to combat drug abuse and illicit trafficking.
The operation represents one of the first major results of the investment in establishing and equipping the Rapid Response Squad, which was designed to provide swift and coordinated responses to reports of drug abuse, illicit trafficking, thuggery and other related crimes.
Rimin Gado warned individuals and groups involved in the illicit drug trade to desist, assuring residents that the Task Force would continue to enforce the law firmly and without fear or favour.
He also appreciated residents for their prayers, cooperation and continued support, urging them to utilise the Task Force’s reporting platforms and Command and Call Centre to provide credible information on suspected drug trafficking, substance abuse, thuggery and other criminal activities.
According to the statement made available to newsmen by Lamara Garba, mnipr Secretary, Media and Publicity Committee
Kano State Multi-Agency Task Force on Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking,
Gado maintained that public cooperation remained essential to strengthening security and advancing the state government’s Kano First agenda.
