Gombe United coach, Austin Eguavoen has vindicated goalkeeper Chigozie Agbim of any blame for his side loss against Kaduna United. The former international spoke to sports journalists shortly after his side Gombe United lost three nil to Kaduna United in the Match day 29 fixture
played at the Kaduna Township Stadium at the weekend.
He said Chigozie had an off today apparently due to the early goal he conceded. He however was quick to stress that the fact that he conceded cheap goals does make him a bad goalkeeper. He further stressed that if the other players had done their job well, the ball would not have come to Agbim, but because someone in the team did not do is job well and the last man is now being blame “that is why we are all pointing at Chigozie.”
The former national team coach added that in most cases Agbim have saved the team from defeat in previous matches. He affirmed that Agbim still remain the club’s number one choice believing he will rise up to the occasion. Eguavoen expressed disappointment at the outcome of the match and said his side played better but that the Kaduna United side did the scoring.
“If somebody told me we will lose 3 nil here today I wouldn’t believe him, but that is the game of football, quite disappointing,” he lamented. He admitted that the Kaduna United game plan work for them that is why they won by frustrating his boys and showing more hunger for goals and it pays off for them.
Arinze Awakwe got the first for Kaduna United in the 3rd minute of the encounter through a header, while Musa Suleiman made it 2 in the 37th minute of the game through a free kick from a far-right of the pitch. Ani Marshal rounded it up in the 80th minutes with a powerful shot at a close range after he received a well tailored passed from Awakwe.
Commenting on the outcome of the game, Coach Saleh Barnabas of Kaduna United said his boys were determined to win the match. He attributed their victory to enough rest the boys
had after their defeat in Port Harcourt which he blamed on fatigue.
