Adamawa:Bala Ngilari sworn in as new governor

Date:

In line with a Federal High Court ruling sacking Adamawa acting governor, Umar Fintiri on Wednesday, former Deputy Governor of the state, Bala Ngilari, has been sworn into office today as the new governor of the state.

The state acting Chief Judge, Justice Ambrose Mammadi, conducted the swearing-in ceremony for Ngilari in a very short ceremony just hours after the court passed its ruling.

Justice Adeniyi Ademola had ordered that Ngilari be sworn in after he convinced the court that his purported letter of resignation was null and void since it was transmitted to the State House of Assembly instead of to his former boss, the impeached Murtala Nyanko.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has consequently been ordered by the court conduct the governorship election in the state that was scheduled for Saturday.

However, Fintiri plans to appeal the case and instructed his lawyer to that effect.
