Mega veterans has rejuvenated handball, says Dadua

The President of the Handball Federation of Nigeria (HFN), Alhaji Yusuf Dadua has monumentally lauded mega veteran’s handball association for reviving the game of handball in Nigeria for the past two years.

The president, who was represented by his apostle, Alhaji Musa Hamza at the on-going International handball Federation (IHF) Level II Coaching Course taking place at the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps academy in Abuja, to serve as a springboard for the improvement of handball in the country, said the federation would do everything possible to support the veterans.

“For the lovers and followers of the game, it is a welcome development that Mega Veteran Handball Association (MVHA) in collaboration with Commonwealth Handball Secretariat (CHS), is bring such needed development to the sport, despite the paucity of funds, which for some time has been the bane of several federations, as a result of lack of fund, “he said.

Speaking to participants, vice chairman Mega veteran, Jibrin sheidu assured that the Mega veteran commitment toward developing game of handball in the country.

“The responsibility of developing the game of handball lying on us the Mega veteran. If we say we will wait for the handball federation, nothing will happen because government does not have funds to run sports like it used to be.

“During our time, they don’t buy kits to play handball but today you have to kits yourself and also take care of the young ones.  So, the only way we can assist the young ones who are coming up is to first and foremost train the coaches who are the basis and pioneers of the game.

“If you don’t develop the basis, there is no how you will develop the head. That is why we bring the IHF instructor from Germany in the person Hans -Peter Thumm to teach our own coaches the basis and model techniques of handball,” he stated.

He charged the participants from various states to ensure that the knowledge they acquire during the one week training is imparted to others, coaches and players in particular.

“When you return back to your destinations, you must make sure that the knowledge you acquire here impacts other people to promote and improve the game of handball, “the board member of HFN said.

A total of 50 coaches and 30 referees are taking part in the one week long training event.
