Lawmakers at the Kaduna State House of Assembly yesterday set up a
seven-man committee to investigate media report (not Peoples Daily) on
alleged plots to impeach the Speaker, Alhaji Shehu Tahir and other
principal officers of the House.
The seven-man committee is expected to report back to the house it
findings and investigations into the media reports in two weeks’ time.
The committee has Philemon Usman Gidan Mana, member
representing Makera as its Chairman, while other members include Ahmad
Hassan Juma’are representing Makarfi; David Umar representing Kachia;
Dr. Mato Dogara representing Lere west; Nasiru Abdullahi Maikano
representing Ungwar Sanusi; Yakubu Yusufu representing Zaria Kewaye
and Barrister Kantiok Irimiya Ishaku representing Zonkwa constituency.
The call for investigation into the media report on alleged
impeachment plot was moved at the plenary sitting by a member
representing Zonkwa constituency, Kantiok Irimiya Ishaku and seconded
by Ahmad Hassan Juma’are representing Makarfi constituency.
Speaking while contributing on the floor of the House,
Honourable David Umar, after passing a vote of confidence on the
leadership of the House, said there is a mixed feeling in the
newspaper as regards impeachment of the Speaker and that was why roads
were blocked on Tuesday.
A member representing Birnin Gwari local government area, Balarabe Jigo
supported the motion, saying the media report is mischievous and
capable of distorting the peaceful atmosphere in the Assembly.
He urged the House to get to the root of the matter so as to avoid
future occurrence.
