Rain disaster: Ogun gives succour to Police

Nigerians have been charged to cultivate the habit of planting trees as a pro-active measure to mitigate against the effect of natural disaster.

Ogun State Commissioner for Environment, Engr. Ayo Olubori gave the charge while distributing relief materials to the affected victims of rainstorm disaster at the Ogun State Police Command Headquarters, Eleweran, Abeokuta.

The rainstorm which occurred on Sunday caused lots of damage to offices and barrack structure which left the command operation and control office in total disarray.

Olubori pointed out that management of the environment is a collective one irrespective of age, sex, occupation or social status of the citizens, and that the habit of tree planting should be imbibed, adding that trees serve as a wind breaker, thereby helping in forestalling the adverse effect of rainstorm.

The Commissioner noted that the affected victims were special class of citizens that help in maintaining law and order in the state adding that government would assist in ensuring that everything was done to assist them to effectively discharge their duties of securing life and properties.

Responding on behalf of the Command, the State Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Administration, Mr. Haliru A. Gwadu appreciated the efforts of the state government for its timely intervention at giving succor to the officers, adding that officers were not demoralized in any way by the incident.
