Lagos empowers 700 residents in agriculture

In its bid to reduce poverty in the state, the Lagos state government has empowered 747 beneficiaries in various enterprises such as artisanal fishing, piggery, egg marketing, Aquaculture, among others in Ikorodu.

Commissioner for Agriculture and cooperatives, Prince Gbolahan Lawal during the presentation of empowerment on agric value chains to the beneficiaries at the fish farm estate Odogunyan in Ikorodu, said the Governor Babatunde Fashola administration had promised to reduce poverty by ensuring that the programme became an annual event.

He said that the state had been zoned into four redemption centres for easy access for the beneficiaries; these four centres are Mowo, in Badagry division, where 320 people benefited from the empowerment.

The commissioner explained that the programme would continue next week at Araga, Epe, where beneficiaries who chose that location would receive their own inputs followed by Agege.

Lawal said there were extension officers who were available to give professional advice when necessary, adding that government would also follow up on the progress of the inputs and produce received, to assess the impact on the beneficiaries.
