Niger State Governor, Dr. Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu has visited former military president, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (rtd), who after undergoing surgery in Germany, is fast recuperating
Investigation revealed that Governor Aliyu at the weekend left for Germany to formally extend his greetings to the former military president after he had earlier, last month, sent a state delegation to visit him.
Peoples Daily gathered that Governor Aliyu was in Germany up till Sunday, before he left for London. He is expected back to Nigeria today, according to sources.
It was further gathered that Aliyu’s visit to the elder statesman in Germany was not only to greet him, but also to make consultations on the political development in the state, most especially on the gubernatorial race in Niger state even though sources say the governor wants his loyal cabinet member to succeed him in 2015.
It was learnt that the most preferred governorship candidate of Aliyu would be made public to the PDP stakeholders within the week, but would be based on the discussion between the duo on the governor’s political thinking and the evaluation of the report of the committee set up by the governor to visit the three senatorial zones of the state.
Sources also revealed that IBB is recuperating, but it may take longer than expected for him to return to Nigeria based on medical advice and the need for experts to closely monitor him, to avoid complications.
When contacted severally on phone, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr. Israel Ayegba Ebije, could not be reached as at press time, but a reliable source close to the IBB family confirmed the visit of Governor Aliyu to Germany.
