The Sokoto State Government has pledged to take proactive steps to ensure more Accountants in the state are enrolled as members of the prestigious Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria, ICAN.
The Deputy Accountant General of the state, Alhaji Junaidu Usman Junaidu, gave the assurance on Saturday in Sokoto shortly after he was conferred with the “Award of Excellence” by the Sokoto and District Society of ICAN.
Addressing newsmen after receiving the award, Junaidu said the state government under the leadership of the indefatigable Gov. Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto is unwaveringly committed to building capacity in the public finance sector.
“I am assuring the people of Sokoto State, In sha Allah, His Excellency will do all he can to ensure that more people from Sokoto State are enrolled into the membership of ICAN,” he said.
On the significance of the award, the DAG described it as a call to greater service and a morale booster to uphold the principles of accountability and transparency in the management of public resources.
He noted that professionalism among Accountants is key to achieving the goals of the present administration, especially in line with Gov. Ahmed Aliyu’s 9-Point Smart Agenda.
Junaidu further urged young Accountants in the state to take advantage of government support to pursue professional qualifications, stressing that ICAN membership will enhance service delivery and strengthen financial discipline in the state.
The “Award of Excellence” by the Sokoto and District Society of ICAN was in recognition of his outstanding invaluable contributions to the accounting profession and to public service in Sokoto State.
