Rep Kigbu submits nomination form, urges supporters to obtain PVCs

Date:

By Ali Abare Abubakar

A member of the federal House of Representatives, Dr. Joseph Kigbu (PDP, Lafia/Obi) in Nasarawa State has called on voters to ensure they obtain their Permanent Voters Card (PVCs), which he said, will give them power to elect leaders of their choice come 2015.

Kigbu made the call yesterday in Lafia, shortly after submitting his nomination form at the state secretariat of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), noting that rigging only obtains when the electorates are not resolute enough to take part in the democratic process of electing the rightful leaders thereby leaving room for miscreants and other enemies of the state to take centre stage.

Giving an insight into why the incessant bloody clashes in the state have defied solution, the lawmaker alleged insincerity on the part of the political leadership in the state and politicization of the crises to have further deepened the ugly situation.

While maintaining that concerted effort must be made by all stakeholders, across party lines, to ensure that democratic process leading up to 2015 is aimed at restoring peace and security in the state, Kigbu noted that politicians who indulge in championing the fiendish course of religious and ethnic politics have also contributed in fuelling the ongoing cycle of communal clashes in the state, stressing that such divisive politics only breeds hate and impedes tolerance which is a cardinal virtue in ensuring peaceful co-existence.

The lawmaker, who is the House Committee Chairman on Malaria, HIV/Aids, Tuberculosis and Leprosy, called on people of the state to remain united and not allow themselves to be torn apart by the unbridled divisive propaganda of ethno-religious political champions who are currently working round the clock to ensure that the state remains in turmoil for their selfish gains.

He expressed confidence that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state is working hard to reclaim its mandate and called on party supporters not to waver in their commitment towards their goal come the general elections in 2015.
