Apparently not too pleased with the manner with which the Inspector-General Of Police Sulaiman Abba masterminded the withdrawal of the security details of the Speaker of House of Representatives, Alhaji Waziri Tambuwal, after his defection to the opposition All Progressives Party (APC), Lagos-based Lawyer and Human Rights Activist, Chief Gabriel Giwa –Amu, has rhetorically advised Nigeria elite to employ the services of armed robbers than rely on the Nigeria Police.
He said he made these assertions against the backdrop of events of the past, where security details, most especially the Police are withdrawn for very flimsy excuses.
He specifically made mention of the situation where Police orderlies of High Court Judges are withdrawn for giving decisions or rulings deemed not favorable to government, and the situation where Police orderlies spun and scorn Judges on the instructions of their superior officers.
Bemoaning what he called inglorious services rendered by the security agencies, he rhetorically asked, “Was is it not alleged that the security details attached to the former Minister of Justice and Attorney-General of the Federation, Late Bola Ige went frolicking while the No 1 law officer was murdered in cold blood?
“Harry Marshal was murdered in the full glare of his Police orderlies; that is why I am counselling that they employ armed robbers, who I am of the opinion, will guarantee their safety better than the Police”, he stated.
On the furore generated by the recent defection of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, and the subsequent withdrawal of his security detail by the IGP, Amu posited that the Speaker is within his rights to do so “because the Constitution, which is the supreme law of the land, entitles anyone to associate with who he or she so desired”.
Be that as it may be, “if Aminu Tambuwal elects not to dine with the devil any longer and rather, wish to seek the face of worthy angels, it is his choice to do so and should not be vilified by anyone. However, I am confident that Tambuwal would have expected this and would have made adequate preparation”, he enthused.
