Governor Sule Lamido has inaugurated the 10- Man Governing Council of Jigawa State University (JSU), Kafin Hausa in his office.

The 10-man council have Professor, Abubakar Rasheed as Chairman and Dr MD Nasir as Secretary while other members include Professor Lawan Sani Taura, VC JSU Kafin Hausa, Professor Abdullahi Yusuf Ribadu, Dr. AbdulHamid Isa Dutse, Alh Aliyu Sambo, Professor Rukayyatu Ahmed Rufa’i, Dr. Ummu Abdulwahid, Permanent Secretary, Education, Malam Abdullahi Hudu and that of Finance, Hajiya Habiba Isa Duste as ex- officio respectively.

In his remarks, Governor Sule charged the pioneer governing council to work hard and justify the conference reposed on them.

The governor, who reflected on the importance of education to overall development of humanity said his administration embarked on the project of setting off own university based on the need of the state on critical sectors of its economy.

Governor Lamido maintained that JSU, students will become a beacon of the development of Jigawa state and Nigeria.

Professor Abubakar Rasheed, in his acceptance speech, said Jigawa state University is one innovation that would stand the taste of time, applauding the courage and foresight of Governor Lamido.

Prof. Rasheed posited that the University has started on the right foot, by producing a well detailed academic brief and excellent structures built in the university by the government, therefore assured that they would continue to build on the work of implementation committee which according him has done a remarkable job.

The chairman therefore assured governor Sule Lamido of his commitment, dedication on the projects, saying that he will perform his duties meticulously, with sense of responsibility and efficiency.

Speaking earlier, the Commissioner of Education, Science and Technology, Professor Haruna Wakili who gave the detailed history of the university, said was conceived to address the deplorable state of Education, Teachers shortage, Manpower need and eradication of poverty.

Professor Wakili, who chairs the implementation committee pointed out that the JSU Kafin Hausa was envisaging starting with three facilities and having 20 years maturity time of 20 facilities, 59 departments and 129 programmes.
