The story of the suspected Kaduna state Police Command Armament officer who was said to have committed suicide took a twist yesterday when the family dragged the Inspector General of Police and the Commissioner of Police, Kaduna State before a Federal High Court sitting in Kaduna over what they termed as “gruesome killing of their unarmed father”.

In the suit no FHC/KD/CS/85/2014, the family is seeking the court declaration of an order that, the killing of breadwinner DSP Nanbol Audu in the early hours of Friday, October 31, 2014 while in detention in the cell of the Police in Kaduna is gruesome, which amount to an infraction of his fundamental right to life guaranteed by Section 33 of the Nigeria’s 1999 constitution (amended).

The widow, Mrs. Patricia Audu, in an affidavit deposed to support the suit, stated that her husband had a day before his death informed her that she should pray for him because from what the Police men were saying, they wanted to kill him.

The affidavit further stated that even though the Police, DSP Audu shot himself in detention, the family of the deceased accused the Police of murdering their breadwinner, adding that the Police authority has not inform the family about their father’s predicament since October 31, 2014.

The affidavit is seeking the court declaration that “there is no justification whatsoever for the gruesome killing, by shooting, of late DSP Nanbol Audu inside the State CID cell without court order.”
