INEC extends PVC registration till today in Kano

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has extended the distribution of the permanent voters’ cards to today Monday in Kano.

Revealing that, the new development came as a result of the late coming of materials to various polling units across the state.

This was disclosed to newsmen at the Commission’s office in Kano, Sunday, by the Kano state Resident Electoral Commissioner, Alhaji Abdullahi Umar Danyaya.

“INEC hereby inform the general public that the distribution of Permanent Voters Card (PVC) in Kano state earlier scheduled to end today Sunday 9th has been extended to tomorrow Monday 10th November, 2014. This is in view of the late commencement of the exercise on Friday the 7th November, 2014.”

According to him display of Voters Registers would be on at the various Units for cross checking. Calling on all those whose names appeared in Voters Registers not to participate in the Continuous Voters Register (CVR) exercise that was slated for Wednesday 12th November, 2014.

He expressed satisfaction over the turn-out of people during the exercise. “We are happy the way people conducted themselves during the exercise. Government offices were closed and markets were all shut down for the exercise. The exercise is generally good,” he said.

On why Kano state that recorded more than 5 million voters during the last Voters Registration exercise was said to be expecting only 4.7million during the current exercise, Danyaya argued that during the last exercise of 2010 Kano got more than 5 million, but the number was later slashed down after detecting some multiple registrations from members of the public.

“See none of the states got 100% collection due to certain reasons like death, health-related problem, etc. Some states recorded 70% and the least some states recorded was 50%,” he revealed.
