Following the missing of Permanent Voters Card of over five hundred and seven units in Plateau state, the state chapter of the opposition All Progressive Congress (APC) has expressed sadness over the exercise, describing it as a “disappointment and negligence” in the side of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
APC expressed its sadness to our correspondent in Jos, the Plateau state capital, through its secretary, Musa Sati, shortly after the end of the exercise yesterday, saying that the act had shaken their confidence in INEC.
The secretary noted that INEC had recently had a meeting with stakeholders in Jos, where it said only PVC of three polling unites were missing in Jos North, but to their surprise, it was found that over one hundred and sixty five polling units were missing, adding that INEC should have raised an alarm prior the distribution.
Sati also recalled that since all the INEC computers had backup device, it should easily retrieve the missing data to enable it get the PVC done, even as he complained that the five-day period given for renewal of registration was not enough, calling on INEC to add more days to enable people register for the upcoming election.
He called on INEC to demonstrate neutrality by conducting free and fair election, adding that anything short of that was a threat to the country’s democracy.
Sati however called on all Nigerians whose PVCs were not found to be patient and tolerant and re-register to avoid being disenfranchised.
Meanwhile, INEC has officially announced the missing of PVCs of one hundred and sixty five (165) electoral polling units within communities of Jos North Local Government Area.
Our correspondent reports that the INEC in Jos North Electoral Officer (EO), Tanko Hussaini, had declared that 165 units have been affected by none compliance from voters, who had not followed the due process of registration.
The EO assured that those affected PUs will have fresh registration carried out on them from Wednesday and will last for five days.
