Reps member empowers women, youth in Tangaza, Gudu

The member representing Tangaza/Gudu Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Sani Alhaji Yakubu, has empowered women and youths in Tangaza and Gudu Local Government Areas of Sokoto State with motorcycles and sewing machines as part of efforts to tackle unemployment and poverty.
Hon. Yakubu said the empowerment programme was designed to provide beneficiaries with practical means of livelihood, reduce idleness among youths and women, and enable them to become economically self-reliant.
According to him, the intervention was not a one-off political gesture but part of a sustained commitment to improving the economic wellbeing of the constituents, especially vulnerable women and unemployed youths who struggle to access sustainable sources of income.
“This empowerment will remain a continuous process. I will not relent until women and youths across Tangaza and Gudu are lifted out of poverty and given the opportunity to build sustainable livelihoods for themselves and their families,” the lawmaker said.
He explained that the motorcycles would enable beneficiaries to engage in commercial and transportation-related businesses, while the tailoring machines would equip women with productive assets to generate income and support their households.
Hon. Yakubu maintained that genuine representation should go beyond legislative duties to include tangible interventions that directly improve the living conditions and economic capacity of constituents.
He urged beneficiaries to see the items as economic assets, not mere gifts, and called for proper maintenance, responsible use, and reinvestment of profits to ensure lasting impact.
“Empowering women and youths remains one of the most effective strategies for addressing poverty, unemployment and social vulnerability, particularly in rural communities where formal employment opportunities are limited,” he added.
One of the beneficiaries, Malama Hauwa’u Abdullahi of Tangaza, expressed gratitude for receiving a tailoring machine.
She said the equipment would help her acquire tailoring skills and establish a sustainable source of income. She also disclosed plans to train her three children in the trade to complement their formal education.
“This empowerment will not only change my economic circumstances but also give me the capacity to contribute to the welfare and education of my children without depending entirely on others,” she said.
Hauwa’u appealed to other beneficiaries to make productive use of the items, noting that the real value of the programme would be measured by the businesses created and lives transformed.
Other constituents described the programme as a grassroots-oriented intervention capable of creating a ripple effect across households, as beneficiaries generate income, employ others, and contribute to community development.
With unemployment and economic hardship posing serious challenges nationwide, initiatives that place productive assets directly in the hands of vulnerable citizens are increasingly seen as critical to achieving inclusive economic growth.
Hon. Yakubu’s assurance that the intervention will continue signals a broader commitment to moving constituents from dependency to productivity and from poverty to sustainable self-reliance.
