Over 200 hundred youths from Jigawa North East protested on Friday at
the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Headquarters, Abuja, over what they described as marginalization of the highest order.
The leader of the group, Arch Aminu Kani, who is also a governorship aspirant from the zone, told our correspondent that since the creation of the state in 1991, the North-East has been schemed out from governing the
state without any formidable reason.
He explained that since Nigeria’s return to democracy in 1999-2007 Saminu Turaki, from the North-West, was elected as governor and that he handed over to Sule Lamido, from Jigawa-Central, adding that “now, it is expected to be the turn of North-East, but the governor is planning to zone it back to North-West”, which he said was a grand design to scheme them out of ruling the state.
The aspirant said PDP constitution encourages power rotation and zoning, and therefore asked why should Jigawa state be an exception?
He called on the party to correct the wrongs in order to avert political crisis, adding that the last Congress election has already witnessed some pockets of crisis and disagreement which the people said were marred by irregularities, leading to complaints across the state.
