Following the reoccurrence of various forms of disasters in the country, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has distributed relief materials to provide succour to the persons affected by the situations in Ebonyi, Kano and Taraba states.
NEMA South-East Zonal Coordinator, Mohammed Kanar who represented NEMA’s Director-General, Muhammad Sani Sidi in the relief distribution in Ebonyi state said the beneficiaries were affected by rain, windstorms and fire disasters which had rendered them homeless.
He said the relief materials were delivered as supports to cushion the effects of the disasters. He admonished them to be strong as the situation had been caused by the global climate change which is presently affecting many parts of the world.
He also urged them to be more vigilant of early warning signs so as to take local precaution for mitigation measures.
On the relief distribution in Kano, the Director General of NEMA was represented by the North West Zonal Coordinator Musa Illalah who said the beneficiaries were victims of various disasters in the State and Internally Displaced Persons from Wukari, Taraba State that were taking refuge in Kano.
He put the number of the Wukari IDPs at about 1, 023 who had been displaced by the recent communal crises in the town and fled to Kano. The other beneficiaries, he said were drawn from eight local government areas of Kano State that had been affected by flood disasters.
Presenting the relief items in Kano, the NEMA’s North-East Coordinator, Alhaji Musa Ilalla said the decision to donate the relief materials was borne out of the Federal Government’s effort to cushion the suffering of the affected persons.
“We have 1, 023 displaced persons from Taraba state hosted by the Kano state government.
“They relocated from Wukari in Taraba state as result of the recent crisis and activities of the insurgency in the North East. Secondly we also donated relief materials to people affected by flood in eight local government areas of the state, ’’ Ilallah stated.
