The Niger state Commissioner of Police, Olusola Emmanuel Amore yesterday dispelled rumours of Boko Haram presence in Minna, the state capital, saying that some residents were mistaking the activities of street urchins that clashed near a public school in Kpagungu area of the city for a possible terrorists’ action.
The CP disclosed this while reacting to Boko Haram scare and the panic that followed the clash between the Soje and Kpankungu communities area boys within the premises of Limawa Primary and Secondary Schools, in Minna.
Our reporter’s finding revealed that the pupils and students of the school scampered for safety in panic, believing that the miscreants were Boko Haram members leading to their evacuation by parents.
He said that the Police have arrested 7 suspects in connection with the clash, adding that they will be made to face the full wrath of the law and that there will be no compromise.
While appealing to the media not to spread rumours of Bako Haram in Minna, the commissioner said that the command was doing everything possible to eradicate such hostilities among warring communities in the city.
Amore said that the Police has reconciled other warring communities of Limawa and Unguwan Daji through dialogue involving traditional rulers and elders of the communities, adding that the same method of peaceful resolution would be applied in the case of Soji and Kpagungu communal clashes.
He said, “We have arrested 7 of them and they will be prosecuted. We are going after the gang leaders and we will soon get them. I want to appeal to the people to be vigilant, as internal vigilance is the prize of liberty”, he said.
He warned those serving as patrons to the hoodlums to stop their nefarious acts, adding that the police will soon carry out inspection raids and any of them caught will be prosecuted.
He said the Police was set to rid the state of thugs before the 2015 general elections, adding that all criminals must vacate the state or face the wrath of the law.
