Nasarawa 2015: Al makura declares for second term

Governor Umaru Tanko Al-makura of Nasarawa State has declared his intention to seek a second term in office, saying his decision was informed by his desire to consolidate on the achievement so far recorded by his administration.

 Al-makura who made his intention public in an address to party supporters and top government functionaries at the Shendam road Government House yesterday, stressing that he will soon lay out the next phase of his vision, which he said, will build upon accomplishments realized thus far aimed at transforming Nasarawa into an economy less dependent on the public sector but based on a vibrant private sector that offers sustainable jobs and a better future.

 He said with what his administration has been able to achieve despite the debt burden and state of infrastructural decay inherited by his government, he has been able to turn around the socio-economic fortunes of the state despite the meager resources accruing to it from the federation account.

Al makura, who highlighted some of his achievements to include the construction of urban and rural roads, digitalization of the state media outfit at the sum of N2 billion, prompt payment of N18, 000 minimum wage amongst others, said the All Progressives Congress (APC) has ushered in a new lease of live in the state urged electorates to sustain the spirit for posterity.

 While regretting the cycle of communal clashes that have bedeviled the state in the recent past is the handy work of a few champions of ethnic politics, the governor also called on members of the public not to yield to efforts by unscrupulous politicians to give a religious coloration to the crisis, which according to him, will not augur well for security in the state.

“In response to clarion calls from our people therefore, I, Umaru Tanko Al-makura have humbly accepted to offer myself again as a candidate in the 2015 general elections.  I promise the good people of Nasarawa State that we will continue with our service to the people with due diligence, patriotism and, above all, the fear of the Almighty God” Al-makura stated.
