The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) yesterday set it has set today, November 28, for the continued distribution of Permanent Voters Card (PVCs) and preparation for Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) in six states where the exercise is yet to be conducted.
States where PVCs are yet to be distributed and CVR pending are: Niger, Katsina, Rivers, Nasarawa, Kaduna and Borno; as well as nine local government areas of Lagos state that were left out in the recently concluded third phase of the programme.
At the meeting with political party leaders, the Commission presented a progress report on the production of PVCs and explained lingering challenges necessitating a readjustment in the previously announced schedule for distribution of the cards and CVR in the outstanding states.
To ensure effective distribution of PVCs and mitigate difficulties encountered in the previous phases, the Commission has rescheduled the exercises to hold as follows: Rivers and Nasarawa states and remaining nine LGs in Lagos – PVC Distribution: Friday, November 28th – Sunday, November 30th, 2014; CVR: Wednesday, December 3rd – Monday, December 8th, 2014.
For Kaduna and Katsina states, the PVC Distribution is slated for Saturday, December 6th – Monday, December 8th, 2014, while the CVR is scheduled for Wednesday, December 10th – Monday, December 15th, 2014; Niger and Borno states: PVC Distribution: Friday, December 12th – Sunday, December 14th, 2014 and CVR is slated for Wednesday, December 17th – Monday, December 22nd, 2014.
Party leaders at the meeting expressed understanding and pledged full support for the Commission’s efforts.
Twenty-two (22) registered parties were represented at the meeting.
