Some gunmen suspected to be Fulani herdsmen have killed nine farmers yesterday in Ashige ward in Lafia east development council of Nasarawa state.
The attackers who were said to have ambushed the Migili farmers on their way back home after harvesting their farm produce along Ashangwa stream 4 kilometres to Ashige town.
Speaking with newsmen at the mortuary of Dalhatu Arab Specialist Hospital, Lafia (DASH) the youth leader of the area, Mr. Michel Danladi said “ yesterday we were home around 5pm when some of our boys escaped from the bush with injuries and explained that some Fulani herds men attacked them and shot one or two persons, I don’t know now weather they are dead or alive. Reaching there, we discovered nine persons have already been killed as they were asked to lay flat on ground and fired them. Now their bodies are deposited in the mortuary”.
Mr Danladi pleaded with the government to deploy security personnel in the area to stop the incessant killing of innocent residents who are looking for what to eat.
Also, counselor representing Ashige, Ogah ward, and majority leader in the Lafia local government council, Mrs Juliana Esla called on the residents to embrace peace and shun reprisal attack.
According to her, “the matter has been reported to the police and they said they will investigate the matter as quickly as possible.”
Contacted, the police PPRO Nasarawa state, Theodor Oguchuku confirmed that the information have reached them, and their men are on the top of the situation.
