A Maiduguri-based non-governmental organisation (NGO), Borno Patriots, yesterday issued a seven-day ultimatum to the Federal Government to either arrest former Borno state governor, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff or face mass protest that will shut down the North-East region.

The group charged the Federal Government to immediately arrest and investigate Senator Sheriff for his alleged link with Boko Haram sect as well as his role in funding the group.

The group,  in a statement signed by its Chairman, Ibrahim Modu and Secretary, Samuel Mshelizza, alleged that if not arrested, the former governor will not allow the military to end the insurgency and will adopt all possible mechanisms to ‘sabotage’ such move.”

“Sheriff and President Goodluck Jonathan have blood on their hands, as the lives of over 13,000 people killed so far will surely not go in vain. If the former not arrested within seven days, we shall lead a mass protest of all members in the north east and widows of soldiers slain by Boko Haram to shut down the entire northeast.

“We can no longer allow SAS to dance on the grave of Boko Haram victims and add salt to the injury of grieving mothers”, the group vowed.

“The Federal Government effort at ending the insurgency in the region would not yield fruitful result as long as Senator Sheriff is walking freely on Nigerian streets”, it said.
