Christmas: Police ban explosive devises in Kwara

The Kwara state Police Command has banned the usage, sales of fireworks across the state, as Christians mark Christmas and New Year festivals.

The Command’s Police Public Relation Officer (PPRO), ASP Ajayi Okasanmi, in a statement made available to journalists in Ilorin yesterday, insisted that the banning of light explosive devices “is still in force.

“Any person or persons arrested contravening this ban will be prosecuted. Members of the public are therefore requested to report any suspicious character in their neighbourhood to the Police”.

The Command, who wished the people of the state happy celebration of Christmas and New Year, said it has put all the necessary security measures and strategies towards ensuring a hitch-free yuletide celebration.

Similarly, motorists in Ilorin, Kwara state capital, have continued to struggle, in an attempt to get petrol into their vehicles’ tank.

Our correspondent observed that most of filling stations in some major streets in the metropolis had long queues of vehicles while others closed their gate against motorists.

However, some of the filling stations were still seen selling their PMS at the rate of N97; but there was apprehension that the price of the product could increase in 2015.

At some private transport companies, transport fares had been increased because of high number of passengers who besieged their parks in order to travel out of the state for the Christmas celebration.

It was observed that fares of Ilorin to Lagos state has been increased to N3, 500, N300 as against N1, 500, N2000 charged for buses and cars.
