NGO offers relief materials to IDP’S in Yola

50 Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) have been supported by a Non-Governmental Organization, ‘Adopt A Camp Initiative’, with relief materials and cash gifts to celebrate the Christmas occasion.

Over N500, 000 in cash was offered to the beneficiaries alongside a bag of rice, 5 live chickens, cooking oil and 2 cartoons of indomie noodles to each of the benefiting families.

Leader of the group, Mrs Bukky Shonibare, while making the presentation of the welfare package for displaced persons at the banquet hall of the Secretariat of the Federation of Muslim Women Association of Nigeria (FOMWAN) Yola yesterday said she and the other young Nigerians behind the Adopt A Camp Initiative want to move away from the syndrome of complaining to taking actions that would engender change in the country.

“We don’t just want to sit down and talk, we want to do something about IDP’s,” she said while lamenting the conditions many of those in the IDP’s were facing. Mrs Shonibare observed that it would be fool hardy to think that only government alone can solve all of our problems.

Shonibare, who gave insights into the motivation to present the IDPs with the food items and the N500,000 cash donations as part of its gesture to ensure that the displaced persons have a memorable Christmas celebrations, despite the deprivations they are faced with.

Special guest of honour at the occasion, the Permanent Secretary Ministry of women affairs in the State, Mrs. Maisaratu Bello, who received the donations, expressed gratitude on behalf of the women and the Adamawa state government

Mrs. Bello commended the effort of the group, stressing that Government cannot do it along but contribution from likes group, like ‘adopt a camp’ is timely and is highly appreciated.

She therefore, urged other Nigerians to emulate the gesture so that we can be our brother’s keeper at the time of need like now.
