The Sector Commander, Mr Amos Thliza, disclosed this at a one-day programme entitled: “Overview of Corporate Strategic Goals”, organised by the command on Thursday in Gusau.

He said that during the period the command had also recorded 130 road accidents across the state.

Thliza said: “237 vehicles were involved in those accidents, affecting 1,444 people in which 859 recorded various degrees of injury and 139 persons lost their lives.

“In an effort to minimise road accidents in the state we embarked on public enlightenment campaigns using different media outfits to tell people the hazards of misusing roads,” he said.

The Chairman of the occasion, Mr Sunusi Kwatarkwashi, blamed most of the accidents on the prevalence of unqualified drivers.

Kwatarkwashi, who is also the Executive Secretary of the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), said people should be properly trained before driving vehicles on high ways.

He commended the FRSC for organising the programme which he said would generate ideas that would help to minimise road accidents. (NAN)
