The Southern Kaduna Peoples Union (SOKAPU) has called on Federal and Kaduna state government to put an end to the spate of serial killings going on in Sanga and Kaura local government areas of the state.

The Union stated this in a press release, signed by its Public Relation Officer (PRO), Thomas Gyang and made available to the media in Kaduna at the weekend.

Mr. Gyang, who said the union is reacting to the recent killing of the District Head of Zangard, in Taked Chiefdom of Kaura local government area of the state, said the killing was painful because the people were still in celebration mood when the attackers struck. “Similarly, two of our people were killed on New Year’s Eve and their houses and property were destroyed; and all the government are saying is that investigation has commenced and like other killings, we are sure that the perpetrators will continue to walk about as free men as those who have perpetrated similar crimes in the past. Enough of this madness”, the statement added.

SOKAPU said the people of Southern Kaduna welcomed the recent pronouncement by the Vice President, Arc. Muhammadu Namadi Sambo, that a military formation will be established in the area.

This, according to the union, is a welcome development, but called on the Federal Government to urgently actualise the promise.

“We are also pleased with the recent promise of a University of Technology in Kafanchan and the spot for the creation of Gurara state.

“We don’t want this to be other political promises, but one that will be actualised; because they are long overdue and the people of Southern Kaduna will follow the promises to a logical conclusion.

“The union, however, called on the people of the region to remain calm, maintain peace and be security-conscious at all time”, the statement added.
