2015 Budget: Kano earmarks N83m for emergency relief materials

Date:

The Kano State Emergency Relief and Rehabilitation Agency (SARERA) has said the government has earmarked N83 million in its 2015 budget for the procurement of relief materials to assist victims of disasters.

Its Executive Secretary, Aliyu Bashir, said this on Monday in Kano, while defending the agency’s allocation for 2015, saying the agency would also receive N150 million for its recurrent expenditure.

According to him, the capital expenditure will be used to procure relief materials, to ensure that people affected by any natural disaster received emergency assistance.

He said that the government was determined to reduce hardship that the victims of disasters might experience.

He explained that part of the fund would be used for the rehabilitation of mentally affected people and return them to their families.

“We normally pick them from the streets and rehabilitate them, and then we take them back to their countries, states or local government areas,” he said.

The Executive Secretary said the agency would also use the fund for the renovation of four of its 13 centres, where physically challenged persons were receiving training.

Also defending its agency’s budget proposal, the chairman, community reorientation committee, Bello Magaji, said the committee would receive over N2 billion in the 2015 budget.
