The Chairman, Diabetes Association of Nigeria (DAN), Katsina State, Sa’in Katsina, Alhaji Ahmadu Na-Funtua, has urged the state government to assist diabetic patients with drugs.
Na-Funtua made the call yesterday in Katsina at the commemoration of World Diabetic Day, 2014/2015.
He said that the call has become necessary considering the increasing rate of people being contracted with the disease on daily basis.
Na-Funtua said most of the people who tested positive to diabetic were poor and cannot afford medication and balanced diet.
‘’I am calling on the government and wealthy individuals to come to our aid with drugs, we need free medicine by the government,’’ he said.
He urged the patients to always abide by the instructions given to them by health experts on the disease for them to continue to live longer, “Every ailment has cure except death,’’ he said.
In his remark, the General-Manager, Katsina State Hospital Services Management Board, Dr Kabir Dara, said the disease was cause by a heredity factor.
Dara, who was represented by Hajiya Uwani Muhammad, said that diabetes symptoms included frequent urinating, excessive water drinking, loss of body weight and weakness.
He, therefore, advised patients to always eat balanced diet, vegetables, exercise their body on regular basis and take drugs regularly.
