Former gubernatorial candidate of Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), Mohammad Sani Abacha has called on Nigerian Police to intensify efforts to curb insecurity ravaging some parts of Northern Nigeria.
Abacha made the call yesterday at the launching of Sani and Maryam Abacha Support Foundation and Award Presentations to Mrs Abacha, at the Affiscent in Kano State.
According to Abacha, insecurity in northern Nigeria was taking to its toll, noting that despite the efforts being made by the Nigeria Police Force, there is a need to redouble its commitment towards tackling the menace of killings, kidnapping and other security challenges bedeviling the region.
He, however, stated that the Foundation was launched in a bid to support less privileged and downtrodden in Kano.
He also promised that , the organization would do its best towards combatting drug abuse and addiction.
He added that the Foundation would commence its activities in Kano before it expands to other states of Nigeria, disclosing that it would partner with the government, traditional institutions, financial institutions and other corporate organisations to support the needy.
“This Foundation is Non-governmental, no-profit. It is a charitable organization with primary aims at promoting peace in society, national cohesion and harmony as well as the welfare of the vulnerable persons.
“We will partner with government, traditional institutions, financial institutions, MDAs, donor agencies among others to empower the youth, promote girl-child education and fight poverty and crime. “We will first partner with Jaiz Bank for its Islkc Shariah banking system for soft loans for youth, especially women in a bid to fight poverty in the society,” he said He continued, “This will help them reduce the rate of poverty which leads to crime in our region. At this juncture, I want call on Nigerian Police to intensify efforts to curb insecurity.
“Security challenges are on the rise in this region. Killings, kidnappings and other form of insecurity are taking to its toll in our region,” he lamented
On her part, the former First Lady said the awards she received were a reward of nervous commitments to serving humanity.
She also said the awards were sources of encouragement to continue to help her community.
