Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, on Tuesday while welcoming lawmakers back from the Sallah and Easter recess, reaffirmed  the 10th House’s resolve to advance legislative excellence, economic reform, national unity, and security.

Speaking at the resumption of plenary, the Speaker highlighted major milestones achieved before the break, including the passage of key tax reform bills and the House’s swift constitutional response to political unrest in Rivers State, which led to the endorsement of a state of emergency and the setup of a 21-member Ad-Hoc Committee for oversight.

He also announced plans to work with the Senate to constitute a high-level Reconciliation Committee to promote peace in Rivers and other conflict-affected areas.

The Speaker underscored the importance of legislative diplomacy, noting his recent address at the first Legislative Conference on Renewable Energy in Lagos.

Reacting to recent violent attacks across Borno, Plateau, Benue, and Kwara States, Abbas condemned the killings and called for increased investment in intelligence, surveillance, and inter-agency coordination.

He also urged lawmakers to strengthen disaster preparedness as Nigeria braces for severe flooding in over thirty states.

The Speaker emphasized ongoing efforts in constitutional review and electoral reform, while prioritizing bills on job creation, healthcare, education, and fiscal policy.

As the 10th House approaches its second anniversary, Abbas announced a series of public engagements, including the Public Policy Dialogue (May 12), a Citizens’ Engagement Roundtable, and the House Open Week (July 1–4).
