Thousands of women of the All Progressive Congress (APC) and members of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC), Lagos State yesterday joined the league of protesters who have taken to the streets to protest the continuous abduction of the over 200female students of the Government Girls Secondary School, Chibok, Borno State on April 14th, 2014.
The protesters, led by wife of former Governor of Lagos State, Senator Oluremi Tinubu and the APC Women leader in Lagos, Mrs. Kemi Nelson, converged at the Archbishop Vinning Memorial Cathedral in Ikeja GRA to commence the protest.
In procession, the women marched from the take-off point, through Computer Village, Allen Avenue and terminated their protest at the State House, Alausa, office of the State Governor, Babatunde Fashola, where they delivered a position letter of the APC Women Wing for onward transmission to President Goodluck Jonathan.
The protesters, who were all dressed in red t-shirts with the inscription, ‘Bring Chibok Girls Back Now and Alive’, also chanted songs to urge the Federal Government to expedite action in rescuing the abducted girls.
Tinubu said the abduction of the girls has exposed the ineptitude of the government to tackle the many problems of insecurity and unemployment facing the nation.
According to her, “We thank God for the situation of Chibok girls; because if not for them, the insecurity problem we have in Nigeria would not have been globally addressed, we thank God for that.
“We are concerned because of all that is going on in the nation, we are glad that people are praying for the nation; enough of bloodshed and thank God this case has drawn a lot of attention to the things happening in this country”, Tinubu stated.
Receiving the protesters, Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Lateef Ibirogba, who received the protest letter on behalf of Governor Fashola Responding, however assured that the message of the group would be conveyed to President Goodluck Jonathan through Fashola.
