Abuja Disco appeals to consumers over power situation

Ding and patience from electricity consumers over the current state of power within the metropolis.

The Head, Public Affairs, Mrs Patience Toyo said the power problems being experienced was due to reduced allocation from 500megawatts to a low 150mw which it is trying to share through load shedding and rationing.

Recall that consumers had recently made some complaints including meter recharge hitches, and protracted power outage in parts of the Federal Capital and Nasarawa states.

In its reaction, the Disco stated that network problem could cause inability to recharge prepaid meters at the Vending Centres. It therefore advised consumers to go to the nearest business units to do that, should the one in their area has any network challenge.

“Abuja Disco is doing all its best to salvage the situation. We have procured transformers and other equipment that would improve supply in our service areas,” Mrs Toyo noted.

Mrs Toyo who stated that the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) recently reduced its allocation due to generation constraint however pleaded with consumers in its jurisdiction to be patient pending when TCN and the generation companies (Gencos) would fully address the situation.

The Minister of Power, Prof. Chinedu Nebo recently has called for understanding from consumers as recent multiple gas pipeline vandalism cut short gas supply to various thermal plants where electricity is being generated.

Nebo who spoke in a recent press conference on the state of power assured that the points are being fixed and shortly, power generation and evacuation will move to over 4,000mw from the barely 3,000mw it is currently.

Giving some joint solutions adopted by the federal government to curb the plunging situation in the power sector especially on gas supply, Nebo said, “On a very positive note, it is projected that additional 295 million square cubic feet (mscf) of gas would be available by June 2014 and another 370 mscf by the end of the year.”

He disclosed that President Goodluck Jonathan approved a re-constitution of the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Gas to Power to intervene in facilitating all enablers to deliver adequate gas to the nation’s power plants, thereby improving power supply.
