The management of Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) has pledged to boost power supply in Abuja and its environs by supplying new transformers to densely populated areas of the metropolis.
he Head, Public Affairs of the company, Mrs Patience Toyo, said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on Wednesday.
“I can tell you that plans are underway to upgrade our infrastructure and supply additional transformers to strategic areas where they are needed, especially the densely populated areas.
“This is all in a bid to boost power supply to our teeming consumers,’’ she said.
Toyo said that since the management of AEDC commenced operations in November, 2013 after the conclusion of the privatisation process, it had been working round the clock to reposition the company.
NAN recalls that AEDC, which covers Abuja, Kogi, Nasarawa and Niger, is among the 10 distribution companies unbundled from the defunct PHCN in November 2013.
The company is now controlled by a private investor, KANN Consortium Ltd. Toyo said the company was making efforts to ensure adequate metering and provision of prepaid meters for its customers to ensure that they are not short-changed.
“Management is working tirelessly to make sure that our customers enjoy full dividends of privatisation in line with the transformation agenda of the Federal Government,
“We have ongoing projects scattered across Abuja, such as the those behind the Apo transmission station, Nyanya-Gwandara and Giwa axis, all in a bid to improve our services,’’ she said.
She said though the company was willingly and ready to increase power supply to its consumers, it could only supply the allocation it gets from the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN).
The company’s spokesperson said that the problem of gas supply to the various National Integrated Power Projects (NIPPs) poses serious challenge to uninterrupted power supply.
She called on stakeholders to assist the Federal Government to address the problem.
Toyo also decried the activities of vandals on its facilities and installations, and called on Nigerians to provide information to the security agencies that would lead to the arrest of the vandals. (NAN)
